Ezra Miller apologises because he can’t sign Marvel comic and Michael Shannon fell asleep while exhausted and watching BvS on a plane…

We’re seeing these two stories running on a lot of sites today with a very clear slant toward anti-DC and, frankly, we think it’s silly as both events are totally innocent.

So, in a crusade against click bait headlines – yes, we hate them too – here’s the ‘story’. Or ‘stories’.

Firstly, Ezra Miller, the big screen Flash, as already seen in Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad, was asked by someone to sign a poster. Nothing strange there, right?

Well…

The poster was for Agents of SHIELD which Miller isn’t in and is a Marvel property – meaning Miller has no reason to sign this and, to be honest, we agree with him

The fan produced the poster and Miller told him: “You understand why I can’t sign that, right? Find me something else and I’ll sign it…”

It was said in perfectly good humour and we think Miller came off just fine at the end of it, after adding: “It’s so obvious that I can’t sign that. I’m sorry. I’m DC! They’re competing comic book houses. Yeah, I’m dead sure.”

There’s a few things to note here, Miller was apologetic and offered to sign something else for the fan, so really what else could he do?

We reckon there’s a strong chance the person producing the poster was trolling the actor, but there’s a chance it was a genuine mistake, either way, we think he handled it just fine…  after all, would you go to Star Wars: Celebration and ask Carrie Fisher to sign a Star Trek poster?

Watch the full thing here and scroll for the second ‘story’.

Next up, Michael Shannon, who played Zod in Man of Steel and Batman V Superman was interviewed by Fandango about his career and, inevitably, the DC Cinematic came up and this happened:

Fandango: The character you played in Man of Steel also had a cameo in another movie that came out around the same time, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Have you watched that at all?

Shannon: You’re gonna get me in trouble, man! People ask me about this all the time. Okay, I’ll tell you the god’s honest truth. Zack [Snyder] is gonna kill me for this – he’s gonna kill me. I watched it once and I fell asleep.

Fandango: You fell asleep?!

Shannon: I know, I know… I was on an international flight and I was tired.

Fandango: So we’ll blame the international flight for that. Also, c’mon – you can’t watch a movie like Batman v Superman on an airplane on that tiny screen.

Shannon: No, you’re right. I shouldn’t have been watching it on a plane. But I never go to the movies anymore! I don’t have time to see anything. I used to go to the movies all the time when I was 20 years old and wasn’t working 10 days a week.

Now, most sites are running with the headline that ‘even Michael Shannon found BvS boring’ or ‘Michael Shannon fell asleep during BvS’ which, technically, is true, but the actor admits to being tired while watching the movie. On a small screen. During a flight. So, in all fairness, it’s not the best environment for watching ANY movie.

So we just wanted to try to present a balanced look at these stories…

Are we right? Wrong? Needing sugar? Let us know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
