So, just a few days ago there was news that The Flash movie could be filming this November… and now it seems there’s a load of craziness going on around the movie again.
Why is this movie so difficult to get up and running!?
Word in that star Ezra Miller – who played Barry Allen/Flash in Suicide Squad and Justice League – may be leaving the movie as he is unhappy with Spider-man: Homecoming screen writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s take on the movie as the tone is just too light.
Now, the light tone can certainly be seen as evident in DC/Warners’ new direction for the DC movies as Aquaman was certainly lighter in tone and Shazam! looks like it’s going to be a really light-hearted outing.
And just a couple of days ago Wonder Woman 1984 producer Charle Roven said the movie won’t feel so much like a sequel to Wonder Woman but rather a lighter-toned follow-up: “[Director Patty Jenkins] was just determined that this movie should be the next iteration of Wonder Woman but not a sequel.
“And she’s definitely delivering on that. It’s a completely different time frame and you’ll get a sense of what Diana-slash–Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years. But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling. Even though it’ll have a lot of the same emotional things, a lot of humor, a lot of brave action. Tugs at the heart strings as well.”
So, it seems that the DCEU is certainly moving away from the darker roots from which it began and is moving more towards a Marvel-esque tone.
Which personally I find a bit annoying as I loved DC’s serious take on a world of superheroes.
Anyway, back to The Flash.
So, in light of the tone of the movie being too light, Flash star Ezra Miller has decided to write a new script himself along with veteran comic writer – and legend – Grant Morrison.
And this draft could determine if Miller stays or goes, depending on if it’s accepted by the studio.
But we do know that with Affleck out as Batman and it looking like Cavill may be out as Superman as well as Will Smith’s Deadshot recast with Idris Elba, Warners are likely not too worried about letting Miller go if it comes down to it.
In all honesty, I wasn’t totally sold on Miller’s take on Flash, but it should be interesting to see where this new drama around the movie goes next… it’s certainly a bold move on Miller’s part.
Here’s hoping it pays off for the fans and the actor.
