Not that there’s really any doubt that it will do well, but Warner Brothers have already announced the green-lighting of the sequel to the Harry Potter universe movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

As expected, Potter scribe JK Rowling is set to pen the sequel with director David Yates set to return too and set the date in the dairy folk because it will hit cinemas in November 16th, 2018. Just over two years away, then, with A third movie set for release on November 20th, 2020.

Warners issued the following synopsis of the movie: The second Fantastic Beasts movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.

The first movie, due on 18th November this year, was always set to be the first of a trilogy (here) with director Yates saying previously that: “We’ve seen the script for Part 2, for the second movie, which takes the story in a whole new direction – as you should, you don’t want to repeat yourself. The second movie introduces new characters as she builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out. The work is pouring out of her.”

We’re also hearing rumblings that Warners are very keen to bring Harry  Potter and the Cursed Child to the big screen, but put that in the ‘future news’ folder for now…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
