We cannot tell a lie, we really loved Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, so this is great news, indeed.
The sequel, written by Harry Potter creator JK Rowling, has started filming today – Monday, July 3rd 2017 – with principal photography already underway.
Word is the movie picks up months after the end of the first one and will see the plot continuing the story of rogue wizard Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp, as he is “gathering more followers to his cause — elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol) and Jacob (Dan Fogler), but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world.”
The most exciting part though is that Jude Law is set to be play the young Albus Dumbledore and we can’t wait to see how he delivers the performance opposite Depp’s villain.
The sequel will also see Eddie Redmayne back as Newt along with returning actors Katherine Waterston as Tina; Dan Fogler as Jacob; Alison Sudol as Tina’s sister, Queenie and Ezra Miller as Credence.
It will also see Zoë Kravitz as Leta Lestrange – you may remember she popped up at the end of the first movie in a photograph, Callum Turner as Newt’s brother Theseus Scamander, Claudia Kim in a mysterious role along with William Nadylam, Ingvar Sigurdsson, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Kevin Guthrie.
It will also see the return of director David Yates and will see the story moving from New York to London to Paris.
Oh and “There are also some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of the books and film series,” promise Warner Brothers.
So there you have it… that’s all we know right now but we will keep you all posted if anything else comes up!
The sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is currently expected to arrive on November 16th, 2018.
