It’s being reported by movie website Deadline that The Conjuring and the box office juggernaut Furious 7 director James Wan has been confirmed to direct the film adaptation of DC Comic’s Aquaman.
The adaptation, set for release in 2018, will star Jason Mamoa as the titular hero however the character will first debut in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Warner Bros Pictures President Greg Silverman issued the following statement: “The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material,”
Deadline also reports that Aquaman will feature the aquatic hero as a “reluctant ruler of Atlantis” who is “caught between a surface world ravaging the sea, and the Atlanteans who are looking to lash out in revolt.” Sounds like a busy day!
James Wan is currently filming The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Potlergeist for release June 10, 2016 and will presumably begin work on Aquaman soon thereafter. We’ll keep you posted on any further developments.
