We’ve known for a while now that Anne McCaffrey’s 22-volume fantasy series The Dragongriders of Pern movie was coming (here) and now a writer in in place to get the first instalment of the ground…

Author and screenwriter Sarah Cornwell will be writing the first movie, which will focus on “Lessa, a young girl who is the only one to survive the assassination of her family, which rules a part of the planet Pern. She disguises herself as a lowly servant in the house of the new ruler but when her telepathic abilities prove to be far stronger than she believed, Lessa finds herself on a journey that will restore the ancient tradition of dragon-riding and uncover the secret history of the planet.”

The movie will be produced at Warners who are confident that Cornwell is the woman for the job after her first book What I Did Before You won much praise. She’s also adapting Demon Camp for Montecito Pictures and she did a page one rewrite of The Forest for David Goyer.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
