We’ve known for a while now that Anne McCaffrey’s 22-volume fantasy series The Dragongriders of Pern movie was coming (here) and now a writer in in place to get the first instalment of the ground…
Author and screenwriter Sarah Cornwell will be writing the first movie, which will focus on “Lessa, a young girl who is the only one to survive the assassination of her family, which rules a part of the planet Pern. She disguises herself as a lowly servant in the house of the new ruler but when her telepathic abilities prove to be far stronger than she believed, Lessa finds herself on a journey that will restore the ancient tradition of dragon-riding and uncover the secret history of the planet.”
The movie will be produced at Warners who are confident that Cornwell is the woman for the job after her first book What I Did Before You won much praise. She’s also adapting Demon Camp for Montecito Pictures and she did a page one rewrite of The Forest for David Goyer.
This series, if done properly, – although dragons were always a hard sell before How To Train Your Dragon – could go on for quite some time at Warners, maybe even longer that a certain boy wizard…
