Filming has begun on the third Planet of the Apes movie, and director Matt Reeves has marked the occasion by sharing the first photo from the set.
Reeves tweeted the image on Saturday (October 17) accompanied by the caption: “#It has begun.”
In the image, we can see an actor wearing a motion-capture suit as they stand in for one of the apes gesturing to another actor on horseback alone on a beach.
Considering the image, the cryptic caption and the film’s new title of War for the Planet of the Apes – changed from War of the Planet of the Apes – it looks like the battle between man and ape is about to reach its breaking point.

The upcoming film stars Woody Harrelson as Colonel, the film’s villain, and Gabriel Chavarria in one of two new “key” human roles.
Writer Mark Bomback and Andy Serkis, starring once again as the apes’ leader Caesar, also return alongside Reeves.
In related news, we now also know that Steve Zahn (below) has joined the cast and will be one of the titular apes….
War for the Planet of the Apes is due for release on July 21, 2017.
