It looks like Wonder Woman Director Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars movie, Rogue Squadron, has begun filming.
New images have appeared online – you can see them by clicking here – and features a lot of new spaceships (one of which looks like a Y-Wing) and several greenscreens.
At this stage, the movie is set for a Christmas 2023 release, meaning Star Wars is looking to recapture the Christmas slot it dominated for a few years there in the wake of The Force Awakens.
In lore, Rogue Squadron was founded by the one and only Luke Skywalker – no word on whether that will be the story in the movie, but given how The Mandalorian Season 2 wrapped up, I’d say it’s very possible – who we now know got the name after the team in Rogue One who stole the plans for the Death Star and got them to the rebellion before their painful demise on the planet Scariff.
Speaking of The Mandalorian Season 2, star Katee Sackhoff recently revealed that she and that she and the rest of the cast were told the Jedi appearing at the end of the finale was Plo Koon, not Luke Skywalker – which would have been very plausible given co-showrunner Dave Filoni’s adoration for the character – so they were as surprised as anyone to learn it was Star Wars’ main character, Luke.
Anyway, getting back to Rogue Squadron, while story details are currently unknown, I’d imagine this could be the first of several movies as Rogue Squadron were heroes of the rebellion throughout Star Wars lore, so there’s many, many adventures to be had.
Anyway, check out the images and let us know what you all think. Are you excited to see what Jenkins can do in the galaxy far, far away? Let me know.
