We don’t need a spoonful of sugar to help this medicine go down…

Disney have revealed the first look at Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins in the upcoming sequel to the 1964 movie (this has to be a record for delayed sequel!?) called Mary Poppins Returns which is set for release on Christmas Day, 2018.

And she  certainly looks the part, even though we get a look at her only really from behind. And the rumour os that this is Cherry Tree Lane, the home of the Banks family from the original movie – the sequel takes place twenty years after the original.

The Banks children, Jane and Michael, are now grown adults and are played by Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw.

As well as Blunt, Mortimer and Whishaw, the cast includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Dick Van Dyke and it is directed by Rob Marshall

“Mary Poppins Returns” is set in 1930s depression-era London (the time period of the original novels) and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books. In the story, Michael (Whishaw) and Jane (Mortimer) are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen (Walters), living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins (Blunt) re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack (Miranda), uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy (Streep).

She arrives on December 25th, 2018. Perfect.

Here’s a leaked image of the actress too:

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
