Right, so this is a thing. I’ll not lie, this whole Five Nights at Freddy’s thing has passed me by… though my son reckons it’s the stuff of nightmares.

So, here’s the deal, Five Nights at Freddy’s is a mobile game, by Scott Cawthon, in which you have to spend the night in a pizza place called Freddy’s (correct me if i’m wrong). The deal is that, once dark, the animatronic animals come to life and murder people, led by, you guessed it, Freddy – here’s the bear with the top hat above.

Now, I’m assured the game is scary and, with the fourth one just released, it’s a very popular one too. In fact, I think I might download it after I write this.

Anyway…

Deadline reports that Gil Kenan, nominated for an Academy Award for 2006 animated movie Monster House, has signed on at Warner Bros to direct the big screen version of Five Nights at Freddy’s.

He and Tyler Burton Smith will write the script.

Are there an Freddy fans here? Let us know if this is something you want to see and if you think Kenan is the man for the job.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
