While we were all pacing the floor a fortnight ago on Ghostbusters Day hoping to get a snippet of news about a new Ghostbusters movie or perhaps even an update or first look at either the animated movie or TV series, we were sorely disappointed as pretty much nothing was announced.
Well, there was merchandise, off course.
But it seems that, if this new report is right, we might have plenty to be excited for in the coming Ghostbusters Days.
Loads of new details on Netflix’s Ghostbusters animated series
Word from the spirit realm is that four new Ghostbusters movies are at the planning stage – one live-action and an animated trilogy.
Now, this isn’t exactly four new movies but rather two as we already knew/suspected that a new live-action sequel to Afterlife and Frozen Empire was likely coming and the animated movie already announced and being directed by Kris Pearn, will be the starting point for a planned trilogy of movies, something similar to Sony’s Spider-verse series.
On top of this, it seems that the Netflix animated series, described by showrunner Ben Hibon as having a “story totally grounded in a time and place that felt real. It has grit, it has texture, it has vibrancy. The goal is never photorealism,” will be planned as a mult-season story, providing it does well enough with fans.
Update on Stranger Things animated series and its Ghostbusters inspiration
It makes sense that the future of Ghostbusters will heavily rely on animation, given how important The Real Ghostbusters series was to fans back in the 1980s, with many insisting it was their Ghostbusters, moreso even than the movies, so having the franchise reach out to all ages on the big and small screen sounds like a solid plan.
And, let’s be honest, Ghostheads, anything that gives us more Ghostbusters content is going to be welcomed by the fans.
Ok, you have thoughts and I wanna hear ’em all.
