Em, what?
The trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, or just Dark Phoenix apparently, just dropped a little over a day ago (here) and suddenly Fox announce a load of release date changes… including Dark Phoenix.
What?
So, here’s the deal.
Alita: Battle Angel has been moved from December 21st 2018 to February 14th 2019.
For Alita, it’s about the date, to have the first movie coming out of Chinese New Year, being day and date. The movie is in tip-top VFX shape and its delay has nothing to do with post-production.
This means that X-Men Dark Phoenix won’t open on February 14th but moves to June 7th.
Summer is not only a better date, but again, it gives the film a better shot to have a bigger opening in China.
And it seems Fox still are determined to make that Gambit movie – which was supposed to be in cinemas in 2016! – yes, really. It’s moved from June 7th 2019 to March 13th, 2020.
Producer Simon Kinberg has this to say about the movie: “When you look at Gambit, he’s a hustler and a womanizer and we just felt like there was an attitude, a swagger to him, that lent itself to romantic comedy.
“You know, when I say romantic comedy, I use that term loosely, in the same term that I use the term western for Logan loosely. It’s not like they’re gunslingers at high noon in Logan. It’s just a vibe. And I would say the vibe of Gambit has a romantic or sex comedy vibe to it. While it is also still very much a superhero movie with villains and heroes, as all these movies are.
“Gambit has a great script and we’re looking to start that movie early next year. Multiple Man, that script’s being worked on right now. [As for X-Force,] we’re just waiting for Drew Goddard to be done with releasing his film that comes out in a few weeks, and then he’ll get started on that script to direct.”
So Gambit will have a romantic/sex comedy vibe and Multiple Man is still being worked on. Fox are determined to make as much money as possible from the X-Franchise before Disney grabs it. As long as the movies are good, we’re ok with that.
And finally, the most WTH announcement of all… Deadpool is getting a PG-13 movie this Christmas.
What?!
Well, sort of. Fox is releasing a new Deadpool movie which is more family friendly this festive season but it will be a re-edited version of Deadpool 2 with new footage added in.
Fox has it listed as an Untitled Deadpool Movie.
