After the new trailer for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny dropped yesterday, I’m sure many of you guys, just like me, were blown away at hos great the CGI Indy was, the de-aged Harrison Ford and it would be odd if we didn’t at least ponder, what does this mean for the future of Indy?
We all know that Harrison Ford is still in better shape than many of us half his age but at 80 years old, he has officially thrown in the towel and retired as the world’s greatest archaeologist (here), so what next?
Well, personally, I would love to see Ke Huy Quan return as Short Round from Temple of Doom, especially after his amazing turn in Everything, Everywhere All At Once but we’re not sure that’ll happen and even if it does, it still leaves room for more of Mr Jones himself.
The other two options are, should the series keep going, to have a digital Indy as we see in the new trailer, or to recast – remember the Chris Pratt rumours? – after all, Bob Iger himself said in 2016 that they do intend on recasting (here); but now producer Frank Marshall has taken to Twitter to say that there was never a plan to reboot Indiana and there never will be: “No one is ‘taking over’ or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being ‘erased’ thru some contrivance, and he never was, not in any cut or script,”
This is reassuring to hear as, unlike playing a comic character or someone from a novel, Indy is Ford and no-one else can step into that gig; sadly, if it stays that way, it means there’ll never be more Indiana Jones movies… but sometimes it’s ok to just let things end.
What say you all? Would you be happy to finally see his adventures end on this outing? Would you like to see him recast or perhaps become a CGI character? Let me know all your thoughts…
I’ll say it again. No one is ‘taking over’ or replacing Indy or donning his hat nor is he being ‘erased’ thru some contrivance, and he never was, not in any cut or script.
