Oh, so here’s a story.
Remember Game of Thrones ended so badly and many believed it was because show runners David Benioff and DB Weiss had decided to concentrate on their upcoming Star Wars trilogy and they kinda just let GoT fizzle out, despite the millions of fans and having created one of the greatest TV sensations of all time?
Remember that?
Well, guess what? David Benioff and DB Weiss are now no longer doing a Star Wars trilogy. That kinda feels like a double fail, folks.
The duo were duo to launch a post-Skywalker saga trilogy beginning in 2022 but they recently signed a lucrative deal with Netflix and it seems they are going to hedge all their bets on that instead.
“We love Star Wars,” the pair said in a statement.
“When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.
“There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects, so we are regretfully stepping away.”
In a statement by Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy, she said: “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers,. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”
After the ending of GoT many fans of the two franchises questioned if the duo had the storytelling skill to manage a Star Wars trilogy after Game of Thrones took such a dip when they took over on story duties having passed the books that they were based on by George RR Martin.
But with these two gone and some doubt still hanging over the Rian Johnson trilogy as well as the core Skywalker sage coming to an end this Christmas, it seems that Star Wars on the big screen may be in a state of flux.
Is TV the future of this franchise? I want to know your thoughts, gang.
