George RR Martin: “There have been talks about a Game of Thrones movie”

The whole world is still Game of Thrones mad… it is sweeping across the globe like a wild fire and sooner of later everyone gets engulfed. It’s just that good.

But, if there’s one thing GoT fans would love to see (probably) it’s a Game of Thrones movie. Well, it seems it’s not that crazy of a notion.

Speaking at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, Game Of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin has been talking up the idea of a feature film: “I would love that. If we go seven or eight seasons and then the show is still big enough that we can get the $200 million to finance a huge epic movie to end it… sure!”

The author, reports Screendaily, also confirmed that talks about a movie have been happening “but that doesn’t mean it has been approved. Some people like the idea. Other people don’t like the idea”.

The author said the series has the biggest cast and budget on TV, coming in at between $5 million and $6 million per episode – and each season between $60 million and $70 million: “But that’s still nothing to what Peter Jackson spends on a Lord Of The Rings movie or what any of these big, epic science fiction or fantasy movies have to spend. To go out with something big like that would be amazing,” he added.

So, GoT fans, would you like to see the climax of the series on the big screen ala Lord of the Rings? Winter is coming… to a cinema near you?
