Get your comic book hero movie fix

July 24th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Comic book hero movies are a whole genre to themselves. And just when you think there can’t be another movie made, along comes another one. And even when there’s no particular comic book movie fresh out at the cinema, you can always get your superhero fix on games at casino and gaming sites like Paddy Power.

If you want to see some of the best comic book hero films that have already been released, check these out.

Avengers Assemble

This has to be the ultimate in comic book hero movies, with four of them all in one film. Avengers Assemble brought together the Marvel characters Thor (Chris Hemsworth), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr). The plot sees Nick Fury, director of the S.H.I.E.L.D peacekeeping agency, pulling a superhero team together to save the world when an unexpected enemy threatens it.

The Dark Knight trilogy

We’ve all grown up watching Batman, whether it was the original TV series with Adam West, or one of the many Batman movies that has been on the big screen. The Dark Knight trilogy has to be one of the best portrayals of Batman. The trilogy began with Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale, Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Cillian Murphy. The next film, The Dark Knight, saw the introduction of Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and The Joker (Heath Ledger). Maggie Gyllenhaal replaced Katie Holmes. At the end of the Dark Knight, Batman disappeared, leaving viewers wondering how the third film could possibly be made. However, the Dark Knight Rises saw the return of Batman and actors Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway and Marion Cotillard helped to make this a good film. Hardy played Bane – an evil villain that made our hero Batman look weak.

Spider-Man

There have been many Spider-Man movies too, but the original Spider-Man film, released in 2002, is still one of the best. Directed by Sam Raimi, this movie saw Spider-Man going up against his nemesis, Green Goblin as well as covering the origins of Spider-Man. The sequel, Spider-Man 2 showed us the dichotomy between the secret superhero and the normal man Peter Parker – who struggles with normal day to day life – as he can’t pay the bills or achieve good grades in school.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
