Ghostbusters Day: Round-up ‘We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!’

June 9th, 2018 by Marc Comments

Today was a big day for Ghostbusters fans as the original movie turned 34 years old and, to mark the celebration, Ghost Corps had a few cool announcements to make for fans.

Obviously, if the movie is 34 this year, it’s 35 next year and this is a landmark for the franchise and the celebrations leading up to that momentous occasion have already started.

So, with out further ado, here’s the goodies:

Ghostbusters Fan Fest

Sony Pictures and Ghost Corps are announcing two years of special events, concerts, licensing collaborations, and the first-ever Ghostbusters Fan Fest presented by Wizard World, to take place on June 8-9th, 2019, the 35th anniversary of the film.

Ivan Reitman, director/producer of the 1984 film Ghostbusters and principal of Ghost Corps, said, “It’s immensely gratifying to see the way the fans have embraced our movie over the past 34 years, in a way we could never have imagined in 1984. The credit goes to the fans – collected in over 1,000 fan groups globally – who have kept the flame burning for decades. I’m excited to see you all at Ghostbusters Fan Fest one year from today!”

Jeffrey Godsick, Executive Vice President, Brand Strategy and Global Partnerships for Sony Pictures, added, “Ghostbusters has not only endured, but has taken on a life of its own and become its own world – from references in ‘Stranger Things’ to the TMNT/Ghostbusters comic-book mashup to fantastic memorabilia, Ghostbusters continues to penetrate pop culture. That’s what these next two years are all about – a celebration of Ghostbusters and the fandom. It’s an incredible lineup of events.”

Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd marked Ghostbusters day with a special video message to the fans, seen here:

Also, if you check out the official website for Ghostbusters you’ll see it has a whole new look including the 35th Anniversary logo which we put at the top of the page. Check out the site here: www.ghostbusters.com

LEGO Brickheadz Peter and Slimer and more…

LEGO is debuting two brand-new LEGO Ghostbusters BrickHeadz figures of Peter Venkman (covered in slime) and Slimer will be arriving on July 1st.

Diamond Select Toys released the first official pics of the figures based on the hit 1980s cartoon series, The Real Ghostbusters:

Egon, Winston and Slimer make up the Series 9 assortment, with the two ’Busters wearing their color-coded jumpsuits and packing all-new, cartoon-accurate gear, and Slimer coming with a support stand and three interchangeable faces! Designed by Yuri Tming, and sculpted by Gentle Giant Studios, each figure packs approximately 16 points of articulation, and Slimer features all-new arm sculpts to better match his animated look.

Plus, each figure includes pieces to build the firehouse diorama – collect all 15 figures in Series 6 through 10 to construct the sign and front doors of the Ghostbusters headquarters! The firehouse features interchangeable parts, including teh sign and the “Hook & Ladder” lettering, so it can be converted from Ghostbusters to Ghostbusters 2 configuration.

Series 10 will feature Peter, Ray, and DST’s first ever fully articulated Mr. Stay-Puft! That series will complete the firehouse, so be sure to pick up Series 6 and 7 now, as well as the imminently shipping Series 8, all based on Ghostbusters 2.

But wait, there’s more…

Later this year, fans will be able to play the Ghostbusters World augmented reality game. A collaboration between Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Ghost Corps, publisher FourThirtyThree Inc. (4:33) and developer Next Age, the game enables players to battle and capture hundreds of ghosts from all dimensions of the franchise, including the films, TV shows, comic books, theme parks, and video games. It features the latest in AR and other mobile technologies and differentiates itself with skill-based gameplay. Fans visiting San Diego in July will be able to experience the game’s first public demo build and booth at The Experience at Comic-Con at Petco Park.

Ghostbusters… The Musical Goes Global!

Beginning this fall, musical Ghostbusters fans can attend Ghostbusters Live, produced by Schirmer Theatrical – special screenings of the 1984 classic with live accompaniment by symphony orchestras around the world, conducted by Peter Bernstein, the film’s original orchestrator and son of iconic composer Elmer Bernstein, who wrote the film score.

Today, the studio announced that the Ghostbusters Live will be staged in such cities as Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London, and Dublin, and many, many more to be announced.
