With the last Mission: Impossible movie bringing in the amazing Vanessa Kirby as the White Widow, the daughter of Max, Vanessa Redgrave’s character from the first Mission: Impossible movie, it looks like there’s another deep connection to the franchise’s beginnings.
The new movies, currently called simply Mission: Impossible 7 and 8, will, according to director Christopher McQuarrie, bring back M:I agency director Eugene Kittridge played by Henry Czerny. He’s the one who Cruise’s Ethan Hunt told “You’ve never seen me upset”.
The trailer for the first movie – almost 25 years old now – is well worth a watch to remind just how damned good it is in case you’ve forgotten.
Anyway, McQuarrie tweeted (below) and image of Czerny with the message: There is no escaping the past…#MI7MI8
To my knowledge it was never revealed what became of Kittridge after the first movie, so I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I love that McQuarrie is bringing the whole series together in his movies and I hope it can be as good as the most recent outings because this is one series that does get better and better.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s Pom Klementieff and Captain America’s Hayley Atwell have also joined the cast with Shea Whigham and Nicholas Hoult joining returning cast members Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg. Ving Rhames is also expected to return.
But at this stage, we’d not rule out anyone returning.
Mission: Impossible 7 is set for release on July 23rd, 2021 on the franchise’s 25th anniversary on the big screen and Mission: Impossible 8 will arrive on August 5th, 2022.
Any fans in the house? I want to hear your thoughts…
