While Spider-Man may or may not steal the show in the upcoming superhero adventure Captain America: Civil War, he also has his own standalone film next year.

A new web domain has been registered, revealing that the web slinger’s standalone outing will be called Spider-Man Homecoming (a search of SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie.com will take you to Sony’s web page). There is a possibility that it’s Sony’s upcoming animated Spider-Man movie.

If it’s Tom Holland’s debut solo outing then there’s reason to be excited because it teases cameos from several Avengers characters.

Back in the 1980s, the Spider-Man comics featured a little-known storyline named “Homecoming” which contained appearances from both Captain America and Iron Man. Previously, actors Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr said they were filming something in Atlanta, Georgia – where the Spider-Man movie will be shot. It looks as though they’ll be showing up.

Going by Comicvine (via Squareeyed), several other superheroes show up in this storyline, so could the film include the likes of Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Wasp (Evangeline Lilly)?

Other Spider-Man characters that appear in the comic include Venom, The Lizard and Black Cat, bringing together an exciting mixture of Marvel heroes, villains and anti-heroes.

Spider-Man will make his debut MCU appearance in Captain America: Civil War – released 29 April – ahead of this standalone film which is due for release in 2017.

Update: Yesterday, reports emerged suggesting that the new Spider-Man movie, starring Tom Holland, is to be called Spider-Man: Homecoming. That rumour was based on Sony registering a domain name for the title, but now three more domain registrations have been found, each suggesting a different title for the film. Now, we have four potential titles in the mix and we’re unsure over which one we like the most.

According to AICN, Sony has registered the following domains: SpiderManComingOfAgeMovie.com, SpiderManGreatnessAwaitsMovie.com, and SpiderManSuspendedMovie.com. These suggest that the new film could be titled Spider-Man: Coming of Age, Spider-Man: Greatness Awaits, or Spider-Man: Suspended.
