Unless you have been living under a stone since New Year’s Day, you’ll know that the world is being engulfed by a virus – a new strain of coronavirus dubbed COVID-19 – that causes a pretty nasty flu and has pretty much the whole world in a bit of a panic (I feel like this is a movie plot).
As a result, we will ALL have to rethink our habits and social norms for a while – hopefully not too long – things like kissing, shaking hands are being looked at in a different way as the virus is spread by droplets (ie coughing or sneezing) while some fear i may be aerosol and can linder in the air for a period of time, another problem with it is that people with no symptoms (asymptomatic) can spread the illness while not feeling ill yet themselves, so it’s scary stuff.
But it means, as I’m sure you will gleam from the info above, that large social gatherings – concerts, sports events, conventions and movies – will be getting the plug pulled until the threat is over.
Now, I’ve been predicting this would happen for a number of weeks, but we are finally here as Hollywood has taken notice and the first movie to be pushed back is the next James Bond outing, No Time To Die.
The movie was originally set to open on April 2nd in the UK and April 10th in the states, but now we’ll have to wait until November.
As per the official notification from MGM:
MGM, Universal and Bond producers, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, announced today that after careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of NO TIME TO DIE will be postponed until November 2020.
The film will be released in the U.K. on Nov. 12, 2020 with worldwide release dates to follow, including the U.S. launch on Nov. 25, 2020.
Now, here’s the deal, this virus will end – several nations are already working on vacinations and the mortality rate, thankfully, is pretty low – but while we wait, we must expect this to happen to other movies, concerts and events we are looking forward to.
This is likely just the start…
No Time to Die is directed by Cary Fukunaga, and stars Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, Ralph Fiennes, and Christoph Waltz.
