It will be a [sad] day, long remembered…
James Earl Jones has officially retired as the voice of Darth Vader, a role he has played with relish since 1977 and one which has earned him an uncountable number of fans across the decades and the world.
Jones’ unmistakable voice was last heard in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series earlier this year when Vader went up against Ewan McGregor’s Kenobi and it seems that, fittingly, this will be where he stands down, signing over the voice of the Sith Lord and any future usage to Lucasfilm and Ukrainian A.I. audio company Respeecher who aimed with Vader’s voice in Kenobi and has worked on other Star Wars shows too.
Word is that, while Jones won’t be voicing him anymore, he will be asked for his advice on future appearances of Vader to “heed his advice on how to stay on the right course”.
It breaks my heart that my idols are standing down one by one, don’t get me wrong, I love that their legacy is not only enduring but living on, but I’m sad that it won’t be these guys behind the curtain any longer. Getting old sucks.
