Jason Reitman teases a massive bit of (so far) unseen Ghostbusters mythology for third movie

September 25th, 2019 by Marc Comments

More great news regarding the Ghostbusters sequel coming next year for fans of the franchise.

Writer/director Jason Reitman has shared an image on Instagram (below) of what seems to be a leather-bound book with the name J.H Tobin embossed in the top right corner.

Now, for the real fans, this is clearly Tobin’s Spirit Guide, a tome first referenced in 1984’s Ghostbusters when Egon and Ray are discussing Dana Barrett’s case.

In the mythology, it is used by the busters – and, presumably others – to identify and research various ghosts and ghouls. But in the years after the first movie’s release, Tobin’s Spirit Guide has been referenced in The Real Ghostbusters, the IDW comics and more.

The fact that Reitman is tapping into such a fun corner of the mythology and actually, for the first time, bringing it to the screen, is so very, very cool.

Now… where’s the Spate’s Catalogue (you either know or you don’t).

Thoughts?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
