It’s been something of a bitter conflict between Star Wars fans and hardcore Trekkies for years; who would win in a fight between Han Solo and Captain Kirk.

This is how Redditor Alex34567890 via Squareeyed said the fight should be structured:

Han Solo from the movies versus Captain Kirk from the original Star Trek series.

Round 1 – fist fight, no weapons. In a barren but slightly rocky field.

Round 2 – Fight with their standard weapons. Takes place in the ewok forest, no ewoks.

Round 3 – same as above, but with ewoks. Solo and Kirk can attempt to win the favor of the ewoks in order to get an edge in battle.

Round 4 – the Kessel run. Kirk gets the Enterprise and his crew, Solo is in the Falcon with Luke, Leia, Chewie, R2, and C-3PO.

Round 5 – both are dropped in a standard nightclub on present day earth. Who can get the most numbers by the end of the night?

Now with the particulars ironed out, we can proceed to who J.J. Abrams thinks would win in a fight. Abrams is, of course, in the esteemed position of having directed both Harrison Ford as Han and Chris Pine as Kirk, so he is acutely aware of the strengths and weaknesses of both of the characters.

When interviewed on the Simon and Mayo show on BBC Radio 5 Live, The Force Awakens director hesitated over picking one answer, before eventually going for…HAN! Ooooh, we don’t think Trekkies will be best pleased about this.

Who do you think would win in a fight between the two? Let us know! Listen to the entire interview below.
