Joel Kinnaman says Suicide Squad sequel is ‘so funny’

October 28th, 2019 by Marc Comments

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I liked DC’s Suicide Squad movie.

I thought it was fun, big and dark and silly and I really enjoyed it and the host of characters it featured.

I liked Guardians of the Galaxy (and I didn’t hate Vol 2) but, despite what everyone would have you believe, I do not feel these movies are anywhere near the same.

Which is why I had concerns on James Gunn, writer/director of the Guardians movies, handling the DCEU’s Suicide Squad sequel… I feared the formula he used at MArvel, he woud simply import to the DCEU.

And it seems I may have been right.

Joel Kinnaman reprising his role of Rick Flag for the Suicide Squad sequel, has been talking about his work on the movie and had this to say: “He’s [Gunn] an incredible guy. He’s written a fantastic script. It’s so funny, [and] I feel like I’m shooting my first comedy. There are a lot of really funny people there. It’s like a learning experience. I’m around a lot of incredible funny people.”

After the cold reception of Batman V Superman, it’s undeniable that Warners/DC decided to move in a more Marvel-movie directiion with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam! and  – shudder – Justice League (lord knows how they’ll deal with the overwhelmingly positive reception of Joker) and now the Suicide Squad is starting to look like it will be the movie Marvel-movie yet – and that’s not a slight on Marvel, it’s just a different beast that DC. so calm down everyone.

But what say you all? Would you a funnier, more light-hearted Suicide Squad? Let me know.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
