John Wick creator talks When he believes Keanu Reeves might be stepping down…

John Wick

If there’s one solid-gold franchise right now, it’s John Wick.

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment’s franchise is made for a pretty low budget, makes a lot of money and has a spin-off (The Ballerina) and a spin-ff series (The Continental) and a fourth movie is on the way with a fanbase still calling out for more.

And now creator and screenwriter Derek Kolstad has been chatting about the future of the franchise and where he sees it going down the line in the years to come, with Reeves having at least one more movie after the fourth entry.

“To his [Reeves’] credit and to his career, he’s done very few sequels,” Kolstad said.

“He found something very special in John Wick that is very important to him, that is both spoken and unspoken. I don’t know how many more there will be, but I think the plan right now is, at the very least, four to five.”

He adds that Reeves may see Wick’s journey ending soon: “The idea being if we can… Shoehorn is the wrong word. It’s very negative, but if you can look at Chapter 4 and go, ‘Is it one long movie, or do you take your time, let it breathe, be its own creature as four and five?’ I think that’s where he would be incredibly happy. He’s taken ownership of this character. He’s made it his own in the best ways possible, and so it isn’t a matter of deferring to a guy like Keanu. It’s a matter of all of us excited to play again.”

I have the feeling that the John Wick franchise will soon become more than a one-man franchise, with a full world opening up, so Reeves stepping down wouldn’t be the end of the world… but we don’t want to see him leave any time soon.

Thoughts? Let me know…

John Wick 4 is set for a May 27th, 2022 theatrical release.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
