John Williams, the legendary composer whose scores have been essential to the continued success for Star Wars ever since A New Hope back in 1977 has composed the music for all eight of the main Star Wars saga movies and is lined up to score both Solo: A Star Wars Story (at least Han’s theme) and the currently untitled Star Wars Episode IX.
However, it now looks likely that Williams will hang up his baton and retire from the Star Wars franchise after these final two movies.
In an interview with Classical KUSC, Williams discussed his time with the franchise and indicated that he may finally be calling it quits after he finishes the Episode IX score: “We know JJ Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him. I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine, that will be quite enough for me”
We can all assume that Disney will be making Star Wars movies for a long time to come and as Williams is well into his 80s it makes sense for him to bow out of the franchise after the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga.
But that doesn’t make it any easier to imagine Star Wars without him.
