Joker standalone movie hires Alec Baldwin and gets impressive composer too

August 28th, 2018 by Marc Comments

Oooooh… the Joker movie has one heck of a cast building.

The movie has just hired Alec Baldwin as a supporting player in the movie with rumour being he’s playing none other than Bruce Wayne’s dad, Thomas Wayne!

“While Warner Bros has not confirmed what role, buzz is that Baldwin is poised play the role of Thomas Wayne, who in DC canon is Bruce Wayne/Batman’s father. Thomas Wayne was first introduced in Detective Comics #33 (Nov. 1939) and he is respected physician and philanthropist in Gotham City.  Wayne and his wife are murdered exiting the theater, an incident which young Bruce witnesses. That becomes his m.o. for ultimately becoming a vigilante.”

It would be odd if Baldwin was playing Thomas Wayne because, at 60, he is older than Thomas Wayne was on the fateful night he and his wife, Martha, died at the hands of Joe Chill, leaving young Bruce an orphan to become Batman.

Remember in Batman V Superman Bruce (Ben Affleck) said he was older than his father ever was. Affleck is 46.

Now, yes, we know this movie is outside the main DC Movie continuity… but it sounds like in this world Thomas and Martha were never murdered, creating Batman. Is this an Elseworlds movie? Or perhaps a Flashpoint movie?

Hmmmmmmmmm….

The cast of the movie so far is pretty impressive with Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker along with Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Zazie Beetz.

In related news, Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir will be writing the music for the movie. Hildur was a long-time collaborator of late composer Johann Jóhannsson, working with him on the music for Sicario (2015) and Arrival (2016).

It looks like, whatever this movie will be, it will be worth watching.

Thoughts?

Warners have confirmed Joker will be heading for the Halloween slot next year, aiming for am October 4th, 2019 release date.
