Disney continue their recent trend of taking their biggest animated movies and making them into live-action outings with an announcement that The Lion King is coming back.

Yes, Simba is returning to the silver screen under the guidance of Iron Man and Jungle Book director John Favreau.

Look, our initial thought was ‘really?!’ but then we thought about how good Jungle Book was and decided that we’d go with it (bet Disney are delighted we’re ok with it).

Anyway, the official announcement states: “We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast-track to production.

“The Lion King builds on Disney’s success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book.”

The new movie will include songs from the animated original, which were written by Elton John, Tim Rice and Hans Zimmer.

Disney has not said when production will start or when the new film will be released, and casting is to be announced.
