One of Tom Cruise’s Iconic roles is as the vampire Lestat in the movie adaptation of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire in 1991.

And now it’s getting remade.

What a surprise.

The man tasked with directing the movie is The Fault In Our Stars’ Josh Boone who is also attached to directing Stephen King’s masterpiece end of the world tale The Stand.

Boone revealed his attachment on Instagram last week:

But now, going one step further, it looks like he has confirmed who he wants to play Lestat this time around… yes, out new Joker himself, Jared Leto.

We think this is a teaming made in heaven as Leto seems born to play Lestat. Speaking to Nightmare Magazine, Boone said: “With any of these projects that are so big and expensive like Vampire Chronicles or The Stand, it’ll probably take a couple of years for any of these things to come together and actually get made just because of how expensive it is to bring these properties to the screen and how complicated the adaptation process is. We have a vision for a trilogy of Vampire Chronicles films, and I hope also a spinoff television series to explore all the side characters and their back stories. That’s the dream. We’ll see what happens.”

So it looks like they are using the Dark Tower approach with a TV series and movie series running hand-in-hand. And, given the source material, we can see this working as Rice created a massive story and assortment of characters with her series of novels.

We’re pretty excited to see a dark, serious vampire tale in a world where Twilight is still so fresh in out minds.

Are you? Leto as Lestat? We’re ok with that…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
