It looks like the Batgirl fans excited for the DC Cinematic Universe movie coming up have one person to thank… Joss Whedon.
Apparently Warner Bros had no plans for a Batgirl/Barbara Gordon movie “until Whedon confessed to his love of Barbara Gordon and her masked alter ego.”
Of course, it’s up to the fans how this news is received… it could mean that the studio is excited to allow a proven successful director who clearly knows a thing or two about Superhero movies and female characters given his Avengers and Buffy The Vampire Slayer success, or it could mean that it proves some fans’ insistence that Warners/DC have no real direction with this universe.
Personally, we reckon that it’s awesome we’re getting a Batgirl movie with Whedon at the controls… as for the reflection that has on the studio? Well, it’s all speculation at this point, isn’t it?
In related news, after stepping in to pick up Justice Leagues’ final bits of work after Zack Snyder had to pull out due to a family bereavement, Warner Bros. has officially announced that Whedon will receive screenplay credit on the film along with the film’s original writer, Chris Terrio. Terrio and Zack Snyder still share the “Story By” credit for the film.
