It’s been a while since we talked about a new Indiana Jones movie and, last we heard, it was still on the planner, but it’s been confirmed again by Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy that yes, it’s happening and don’t worry… it’s not a reboot.
Just after winning the BAFTA Fellowship Award and then promising that an upcoming Star Wars movie would be directed by a woman (“Oh, absolutely. Without question… We’ve already got ’em. We’re doing Mandalorian, we’ve got two or three fantastic women working with Star Wars and we just brought in Deborah Chow who’s doing the Obi-Wan series. We’re cultivating a lot of great talent.”), Kennedy has been talking about the return of everyone’s favourite archeologist: “We’re working away, getting the script where we want it to be and then we’ll be ready to go.
“Harrison Ford will be involved… It’s not a reboot. It’s a continuation.”
This is good news as there has been rumours of a reboot and a reimagining of the franchise with names bandied about like Chris Pratt and, well, just Chris Pratt, really. But, as with Han Solo, there’s only one man can play the role: Harrison Ford.
Kennedy co-founded Amblin Entertainment with Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall and has been the president of Lucasfilm since 2012, so Indy has been on the top of her list of priorities for a while, it seems.
Whatever is happening, it’s nice to know that Indy will by Harrison Ford for sure next time out… they just kinda have to hurry and get it made.
