Kevin Feige talks Black Widow movie as new cast member likely a big part of the Black Widow story

New leaked images from the upcoming Black Widow prequel for the MCU may reveal a major new player in the MCU.

The movie will see Scarlett Johansson reprise the role in the prequel and she will be joined by newcomers David Harbor, Rachel Weisz and Ray Winstone however it is Fighting With My Family star Florence Pugh who has our eyebrows raised the highest.

The actress is credited in the movie as ‘Yelena’ (see the pics below) and with the actress already seeming to be in a very physical role in the movie, it is likely she is playing Yelena Belova – the second Black Widow!

The character in the comics start out as an enemy of Romanov (Johansson) but ultimately became her ally and, having had the same KGB training, finally replaced her when Hydra killed the original Black Widow.

Now, we know Hydra didn’t kill Widow in the MCU, but we also know she’s very certainly dead… so is this movie setting up her replacement? I’d say that’s very likely.

Man, her corpse isn’t even cold and the replacement is already lined up… such is the movie business, I guess.

Adding to this, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has come out and talked a little about the upcoming Black Widow movie.

Although SPOILER the character died – seemingly for good – in Avengers: Endgame, there was some chatter on the interwebs that the new movie would still be a sequel, but Feige seems to have knocked that on the head.

“There’s a method to the madness,” he says, “There’s always a method and doing things in an unexpected way is something we find fun. There are ways to do prequels that are less informative or answer questions you didn’t necessarily have, and then there are ways to do prequels where you learn all sorts of things you never knew before.”

It is nice to know that when the movie comes along it will fill in some blanks in the MCU – you know, the way Captain Marvel finally revealed what happened Nick Fury’s eye and how the Avengers got their name.

“I look at Better Call Saul as a wonderful example of a prequel that almost completely stands on its own apart from Breaking Bad because it informs you about so many things you didn’t know about before,” Feige goes on.

“So time will tell which way we’ve gone with a supposedBlack Widow move.”

It looks like the movie be be setting up the MCU future while going back to the past. Thoughts?

The MCU prequel will be directed by Lore’s Cate Shortland (Lore).
