Fans of Kevin Smith may recall that a couple of years ago he was set to bring the world a Mallrats tv series based on his second movie which sadly fell through before it could get off the ground.
After that the never-stop writer/director/star moved on to Clerks 3, the sequel to the sequel to his first movie but had hit difficulties due to star Jeff Anderson not wanting to return however, Smith managed to get the star on board (here) as last we heard it was full speed ahead.
In between all this, Smith had a heart-attack and went on to bring his whole Viewaskewniverse back for Jay & Silent Bob Get Rebooted but he’s still stuck in that world and isn’t planning on leaving anytime soon it seems.
Smith has taken to social media to confirm that he keeps heading back to the Mall too and is actually still set to bring Mallrats back, along with those pesky Clerks too, but this time to the big screen in the form of Twilight of The Mallrats.
“I’m off to a fun start [to 2020] by writing stuff for Brodie Bruce & Co. to say in the new script I’m calling TWILIGHT OF THE MALLRATS! The CLERKS III script is also underway, so we’ll see which flick will be my first film of the roaring 20’s!”
Honestly, I found Jay & Silent Bob Get Rebooted to be a bit of a let-down (although the pay-offs were pretty emotional) but the idea of Smith going back to the worlds of the Clerks and the Mallrats is a very welcome one. Those movies enraptured a very big part of my years at university and it was always good to know that, no matter how far we travelled, others were living lives very similar to mine.
Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars.
He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer.
He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot.
Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
