Kickboxer remake kicks into gear with new cast announcements

August 6th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Remakes remakes remakes… doers Hollywood have any original ideas left?!

Apparently not as the latest film to get the remake treatment will be… Jean Claud Van Damme’s Kickboxer. You may remember it as the movie where Van Damme’s character goes through brutal training to become the best kickboxer and avenge his fallen brother.  Yeah, we were skeptical about this as well.

But it seems that director Stephen Fung has lined up quite the cast for this re-telling, and they all know their Martial Arts, thats for sure.  Actor and Stuntman Alain Moussi is taking on the lead role. He has performed stunts for films like PACIFIC RIM, BRICK MANSIONS, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, and the upcoming WARCRAFT, as well as being an accomplished martial artist.

The cast also includes Georges St. Pierre (a 3-time UFC champion who played Batroc in Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Scott Adkins & Tony Jaa (Both well respected film starts and masters of the art of ass-kickery), and Guardians of the Galaxy’s Dave Bautista.

It’s an impressive cast, and a movie starring all of these guys based on a classic 80’s Van Damme movie could be quite a fun ride.  But we’ll have to see if this is a back to basics approach like the original, or a high octane mess like most types of films like these nowadays.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
