Landis and McBride working on new GI Joe movie script(s)

Just when I was starting to think the Hasbro Cinematic Universe was dead in the water, news comes that Paramount are developing two new takes on the iconic toy and animation brand.

While Skybound are doing amazing things with their Energon Universe comic series, with an animated series rumoured, which includes GI Joe, Transformers and (coming soon) M.A.S.K, the big screen outings are a harder egg to crack, it seems.

When 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduced GI Joe in a post-credit scene, it looked like the Hasbro universe was up and running but when that movie didn’t deliver, the whole thing seemed to die off and then Transformers: One (which was superb) failed to deliver and, despite several rumours about more big fighty robot movies coming, the GI Joe corner of that world seemed pretty low on news.

Bay returning? No GI Joe crossover? What is happening to the Transformers movies?

Even Rise of the Beasts star Anthony Ramos, when asked last month about movement, implied that the recent Paramount/Skydance buyout has put a damper on things, saying: “Come on, talk to Paramount. I mean, everybody’s buying everybody now. So, Paramount, talk to Skydance or talk to whoever … all of them, just hit them up, if you’ve got their number. Shout them out.”

But now, it seems things may be happening again. Albeit in a weird way.

Word is that Max Landis, writer of Bright and Mr Right, as well as being both disgraced and canceled during #MeToo (you can google it if you wish) and Danny McBride, actor and writer of Halloween Ends and The Righteous Gemstones, are both working on scripts which, while separate projects, could also, conceivably, be merged into one movie.

FIRST LOOK: M.A.S.K (Mobile Armoured Strike Kommand) gets Energon comic series

Wut?

There’s no word if this is the GI Joe/Transformers movie that Rise of the Beasts set-up, or perhaps a standalone GI Joe movie that may eventually come around and link into the Transformers franchise, but as of now, at least there’s some movement.

But they’ll be working hard to make something better than what we’re getting over at Skybound Comics.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.

Looks like the Transformers: One sequel is no longer happening
