Looks like the Transformers: One sequel is no longer happening

Bad news tonight, Transformers fans.

If, like me, you thought Transformers One was the best thing the franchise has done since the original 1984 movie, then I’m sorry to have to tell you but it seems that due to piss-poor marketing and seriously underperfoming at the box-office, Transformers Two (I guess?) is no longer part of the plan.

Speaking at Bot Con ’25 in Wayne, Indiana, director Josh Cooley broke the news that, as of now, Paramount has no plans to pursue a sequel to the 2024 animated movie telling the story of friends Orion Pax and D-16 who would find themselves becoming mortal enemies  Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Transformers One director in talks about what comes next, says Hasbro boss

“I wish I had something to announce, but I do not,” Cooley said, adding: “What I’ve been told is that Paramount Animation is not interested in making a sequel. That’s what I was told. I wish we could. I have ideas, too. So it would have been cool. We’ll see what happens. You never know.”

This flies in the face of the news we received late last year from Hasbro Entertainment’s Oliver Dumont, who hinted at more stories to be told in that universe, saying: “Coming off of Transformers: One, we have been exploring future projects with the film’s director, Josh Cooley. The Transformers franchise has such a rich history and passionate fandom, so there are so many facets that have yet to be explored in entertainment.”

The movie’s disappointing box office performance led Hasbro to cease co-financing theatrical films based on its brands. This is most likely why the sequel is now scrapped and, it seems so is the planned Transformers/GI Joe crossover movie.

This is very disappointing news, given how warmly received the movie was by fans who saw it… But there’s no denying that the marketing was terrible and that awful first trailer did the movie a lot of harm, making it seem like a slapstick comedy, rather than Transformers do Greek Tragedy.

Transformers: One director talks more movies, says there’s a lot of story still to tell…

Transformers One is the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron, better known as sworn enemies, but once were friends bonded like brothers who changed the fate of Cybertron forever. In the first-ever fully CG-animated Transformers movie, TRANSFORMERS ONE features a star-studded voice cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, with Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Hamm.
Directed By: Josh Cooley

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
