Laurence Fisburne joins Pratt and Laurence on Passengers

August 8th, 2015 by Jonathan Snelling Comments

Laurence Fishburne, yes Morpheus and Jack Crawford himself, is set to join Sony’s new science fiction film, Passengers, with Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt and Michael Sheen. Just let that cast sink in for a moment and you realise this has the potential for being one great film.

What is Passengers you ask, well it centres on Chris Pratt’s character Jim Preston; “a mechanic on a 120-year journey to a distant colonized planet in another galaxy, who becomes the first traveler to experience pod hibernation failure. Having woken up 100 years too soon, he is stranded in the world of an interstellar spaceship with only robots and androids for companionship. A year into his journey, he decides to wake up a fellow passenger, a beautiful journalist named Aurora (Lawrence). They fall in love but must soon deal not only with the revelation of Jim’s misjudged act of waking her but a major malfunction of the ship itself.”

I don’t know about you but I’m getting many ‘Lost in Space’ vibes here. They are on a journey, something bad happens, they wake up, some more bad happens, two people fall in love. See what I mean? It’s just fortunate Matt LeBlanc isn’t in this film.

Fishburne’s character has not yet been revealed but it’s good to see he is doing a great deal after the recently cancelled Hannibal. If he was ever to return as Jack I’m sure no one at FTN will object but fortunately we don’t have to wait too long to see Fushburne on screens again. He is set to appear in Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, reprising his role as Perry White too.

My name is Jonathan Snelling. I’ve been a movie fan for a long time now and last year completed a degree in Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University. It’s hard to choose a favourite film but I’ve always been a major fan of Christopher Nolan’s Batman saga. I’m really interested to see how Ben Affleck does in Dawn of Justice as it's set to be an incredible film. I’m usually willing to see any genre but naturally some more so than others.
