Lawrence Kasdan talks Solo: A Star Wars Story sequel and how it’ll never be a TV series

August 1st, 2022 by Marc Comments

You probably know by now that we here are FTN HQ are big fans of the Solo: A Star Wars Story movie which came out in 2018 and would very much love to see a sequel to it as it set up several stories and threads in the Star Wars universe that really are crying out to be explored.

And it seems that Hollywood legend and Solo co-writer Lawrence Kasdan feels the same.

In a new interview about his ILM documentary Light and Magic, Kasdan was asked about Solo and if, as is often rumoured, the small screen in the place to continue that story of Han, Chewie and the Falcon, but Kasdan feels that no, if he’s involved, Solo belongs on the silver screen.

“No there’s not any talk of that,” he says when asked about a Solo Disney series, adding: “I’ve never been particularly drawn to expanding [Solo] into a show. But, I do talk to Jon [Kasdan] and Ron [Howard] a lot about what went right and what went wrong with the Solo experience. I would be more interested in doing another movie, not a TV series.”

Wait, doesn’t ‘there’s no talk of that’ imply there is talk of some sort? Saying they discuss what went wrong and what went right means there’s hope that they can get a second bite of the cherry. Or is that just us? Well, maybe not, Kadan’s son, John Kasdan, who came up with the Solo story, in an interview at Star Wars: Celebration said that he has spoken to Jon Favreau, the man being The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Iron Man, about Solo and he’s a big fan of the movie and wants the story to continue:

To us, this all implies that there is talk at Disney/Lucasfilm about getting Alden Ehrenreich back as Han Solo and continuing the story that was left off so unceremoniously four years ago and we’re all for it.

In related news, Kingsman star Taron Egerton has spoken about almost being cast as Han in the movie and how he felt that, had he got the role, he’d have done all he could have hoped in the business of show: “I got on the Falcon. I was with Chewie. I was in the full costume & I… you know what, that’s what I felt like. I felt like I got there, I did it, I lived it.”

Sounds like he was pretty close to the gig, in fairness.

So, what do you all think? Do you agree with us that this all suggests there’s talk and possibly plans to bring Solo back to the big screen and finish that story with Maul and tie up all those threads? We sure hope so…
