Looks like Doctor Strange 2 villains are set…

In a worrying development, Benedict Cumberbatch recently revealed that he has still not heard anything about a sequel to the surprisingly good Dr Strange movie.

However, now, thankfully C Robert Cargill, one of the co-writers for the first movie, has revealed that there are plan in place for the sequel including the villain and key story details.

While involved in Q&A session at a screening of Dr Strange held in Austin, Texas, Cargill opens up about some of the more interesting details on the possible sequel.  Bearing in mind that Marvel have not officially green lit a sequel it appears that Cargill and Scott Derrickson are actively working on a script for the movie and that the plan is to use Nightmare as the main villain, with Cargill publicly stating at the Q&A that: “Nightmare will be the villain”.

Nightmare (above) is the daemon ruler of the dream dimension, a near omnipotent being who has the ability to draw power from psychic energies from dreaming beings.  While Nightmare would be a powerful foe for the good doctor it would yet again see him facing off against another interdimensional being similar to previous villain Dormammu

Feeling loquacious, Cargill then went on to discuss plans for Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor: “Marvel movies work in threes. They also work outside of their threes. Some of the better Marvel films have more than one villain in them. Me and Scott have not laid the groundwork for it but what I can say is that I have a feeling that whatever Nightmare is involved with, Baron Mordo, being somebody who considers himself the defender of natural law will have something to do with it.

“For those of you who have ever read the comics, you know that Baron Mordo has a very particular arc, and that’s something we discussed with Chiwetel while working on the first movie. And part of the reason Chiwetel wanted to play Mordo was because he has a definitive ending as a character and it’s such a fascinating ending. And I do know that whether we’re attached or not, that Marvel plans on working towards that ending and fully realizing Mordo as more than just a cardboard cutout villain, but actually taking him to kind of Loki levels of awesomeness. That’s the goal with him.”

I am all for Marvel creating good villains as they an be weak points of the MCU ( looking at you Ultron) and with so many current characters expected to not make it through to phase four we need good villains going forward.

Marvel have not officially confirmed that there will be a Dr Strange two yet but given how well the first movie was received and how much money it made it would be foolish of them not to make at least one sequel and the writers being so vocal it could give the final push for a green light.
