MARVEL MOVIE/TV ROUND-UP: Maria Hill set for SHIELD? Coby Smulders speaks, War Machine features in Iron Man 3, will we see the Guardians of the Galaxy sooner than thought?

Although there’s been a lot of love her/hate her, we at FTN really liked Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill in Avengers and we really liked the alternate opening to the movie (here) as it gave a real glimpse of what Hill’s agenda is.

And hopefully, with her already confirmed for Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, we’ll get to see this expanded even further for the ABC SHIELD TV pilot/series as she is ‘in talks to appear’ alongside Clark Gregg as the now apparently not dead Agent Phil Coulson.

Speaking to Iamrogue.com, Smulders said: “The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it and I can’t really say, but there are definite talks about it,” “Joss Whedon is a genius and any opportunity that I have to say words that he has written, I will take. … I love Clark [Gregg] and want to be a part of it but we’ll see.”

Surely if this happens it’s only a matter of time until Samuel L Jackson pops us as Nick Fury… well we can dream, can’t we?

In other news, there is some more speculation about the upcoming Iron Man 3 and who, in the now longstanding tradition, will cameo.

The rumour is The Guardians of the Galaxy will pop up this time out. The rumour comes from a couple of places, firstly, the Iron Man 3 toy line by funko Pop! Vinyl  – pictured below – feature The Mk 42 armour, War Machine, Iron Patriot (not in picture) and… Deep Space Suit Iron Man.

On top of that, speaking to EW, Robert Downey Jnr spoke about the potential of cameos in Iron Man 3 (remember Wasp is also rumoured to be in it) and said: “Everywhere you look now in every Marvel movie there are opportunities where certain new pals of his (Tony’s) could be useful. So they’re in the atmosphere, so to speak, but I wouldn’t expect to see them on the ground in this one.”

Cryptic? Yes… but could this mean there’ll be aliens of a friendly nature popping up? We hope so.

In other Iron Man 3 news, also chatting to EW, Downey Jnr spoke about Don Cheadle’s Rhodey  – War Machine – and how he’ll fit into Iron Man 3: “Rhodey is much more in the dead center of things. He’s much more dynamic. We’ve made this decision that while Tony is a technical guy, he’s not really a trained guy. There’s a lot of fun to be had with Don because he’s really good with hardware and he’s a martial artist, so it’s been really fun exploiting this possibility of Tony having moments like the one in Avenger, like the one with Cap where he decides, ‘Oh screw it, he probably knows what he’s doing.’ So there’s a lot of that and a lot more fun and a lot more depth to Rhodey this time around.”

Does this mean War Machine will officially be an Avenger from here on? We love Don Cheadle and we certainly hope so…

Iron Man 3 will be out in cinemas on April 26th
