We already know that Emily Blunt is likely to sign on to play Mary Poppins in Disney’s currently in production remake/sequel/reboot... but what about Bert, Dick Van Dyke’s chimney sweep?
Well, no-one. Yet.
But…
Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is in talks to play Jack, a lamplighter who may well be this movie’s version of Bert from the 1964 original.
Insiders confirm the new film will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written and 20 years after the first film was set) and will take story lines from P.L. Travers’ books focusing on Poppins’ continued adventures with the Banks family.
Miranda isn’t just an actor here, as he also helped compose the score for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Moana at Disney.
He’s expected to help compose the music in the new Mary Poppins too.
It’s hard not to be excited for the Mary Poppins universe returning… we just hope it’s a musical and has the cartoon element too.
