Matt Reeves discusses The Batman Part II delay

January 8th, 2025 by Marc Comments

We learned a couple of weeks back that The Batman Part 2 was pushed back from October 2nd, 2026 to October 1st, 2027 and while it raised a few eyebrows, the only feedback we really got was from DCU boss James Gunn who said the delay was due to Matt Reeves still developing the script; well, not Reeves addresses this himself.

In a new interview from The Golden Globes at the weekend, Reeves spoke about the delay, confirming that filming would be beginning this year: “This year we’re going to be shooting and I’m very excited about it. There’s been a lot of stuff going on. It’s taken longer than I would have wanted but, also, I’m super excited about what we’re doing and I can’t wait to share that with everybody.”

The Batman II and Batman: The Brave and the Bold movies both pushed back

He then confirmed what Gunn had said about the script still being worked on: “…We’re still finishing the script and there have been so many things going on. This next year is very much about getting into production and getting the movie going and we’re really excited about it”.

Mr Freeze set for The Batman Part II?

With Mr Freeze being rumoured as the villain for the sequel, Reeves teases that he thinks the villain – we’ve had Joker, Riddler, Penguin and Catwoman already – will be “surprising” to the audience before talking more about the story: “I think the story is a continuation, in a certain way, and completely different in another. It’s going to show different sides of Rob [Pattinson, Batman/Bruce Wayne]. I think it’s going to be really exciting, I think it’s going to be really cool.

The gap between the release of the first and second movie is pretty big but we’ve had The Penguin series in between and I’ve a feeling we might have more stories before the sequel hits, I just hope the audience doesn’t loose interest in the second movie before it hits screens… but I somehow don’t think they will.
