With Matt Smith having yet to really make an appearance in the trailers for Terminator: Genisys, many are wondering if he’s even really in the movie at all… and how does he fit it since it seems that all the big plot points have already been revealed via the footage already released.
For the record, we reckon he’s got a much bigger role in the movie than has been hinted at… but we’re just speculating.
Anyway, Smith has been talking to Den of Geek about the upcoming fifth Terminator movie and he dropped a few interesting tidbits: “My character has connections to John Connor, I have close interest and links to John Connor.”
Asked about the all-knowing and humanity hating Skynet, he says: “Am I afraid of Skynet? Everyone’s afraid of Skynet, aren’t they? Again, we’ll have to wait and see the actual specifics of what I am.” Wait, did he just say “what I am” and not “who I am”? Could this be a little clue as to what he is in the movie?
Talking about the role he’s known for, Smith says: “This is a completely different role to the Doctor, which again is one of the things that appealed to me, and hopefully allows me to stretch a few different muscles. Also, to be part of this legacy is something that was very appealing to me. If you look at the first two movies, and the characters we get to explore in these movies, having come from different timelines in that world, or descendants from that world, it gives us a chance not to emulate them, but try to make films of a similar quality.” So he’s confirmed it touches on both movies and characters fro them? Hmmmmmmm…
Regarding his involvement and people’s worries that he’d on the cutting room floor, we reckon it’s unlikely: “I am part of the sequels, yes, so I’ll be around for two and three. Which is good. Keeps me employed for a while!”
So what do you think? Is Smith a bigger character than anticipated? Let us know your thoughts…
Terminator Genisys is out in UK cinemas on the 3rd July.
