MCU casts its next big villain, Kang the Conqueror, for Ant-Man 3

Move over Thanos, the new big bad in the MCU is coming. And he’s a doozy!

It seems that Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors has been cast in Ant-Man 3 to play the time-traveling supervillain Kang the Conqueror which has also got a lot of people wondering if this means we are going to get the Fantastic Four in the MCU fan too as he has a big connection to Marvel’s first family.

While not officially greenlit by Marvel/Disney yet, we know that Ant-Man 3 is well underway of pre-production already and that the script will be penned by Rick and Morty’s Jeff Loveness and, yes, Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are all set to return.

Majors (31) has starred in Hostiles, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Da 5 Bloods and Lovecraft Country, so it’s true to say his star is rising.

Kang in the comics is Nathaniel Richards from the 31st century who discovers ancient time-travelling technology developed by the one and only Dr Doom – we know Doom is rumoured to be a big part of the future of the MCU, but I’m guessing that this could easily tie into Tony Stark’s technology from Avengers: Endgame.

Richards is possibly a descendent of Doom in the comics. When he travels into the past he meets the Avengers and is defeated before returning to the future where he goes too far and arrives in a desecrated world – once there, he uses his tech to rule and calls himself Kang the Conqueror.

His superpower is technology that is far beyond our understanding that he has pillaged throughout time.

It’s interesting to note that Ant-Man 1-3 director Peyton Reed has expressed a desire to do a Fantastic Four movie, so there could certainly be some big Marvel connections coming – don’t forget that Ant-Man and the Wasp introduced the Quantum Realm which turned out to be vitally important in Endgame, so it’s not entirely impossible this Ant-Man will set bigger things into play too.

It’s also very possible that Kang will be a post-credits villain, much like Thanos was for ten years in the first few Phases of the MCU.

So, what say you all? Are you excited to see another Thanos-tier villain introduced in the MCU already? Let me know…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
