Monica Belluci and Willem Dafoe join Keaton, Ryder and Ortega for Beetlejuice sequel

Man, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a movie move along as quickly as this one!

After we learned a few weeks back that Tim Burton was returning to direct a Beetlejuice sequel – thirty years after the original – it’s been a rollercoaster of news.

Michael Keaton is back as the titular ghost, along with original stars Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, we know to that Scream and Wednesday star – also from Tim Burton – Jenna Ortega would be the movie’s lead and will be playing the daughter of Ryder’s Lydia.

We also learned that Danny Elfman would be returning to score the sequel, having given the first movie such a unique musical flavour: “It’s perfect, you know? Everybody else has to play the next generation, except for Michael [Keaton]. I mean, he’s still like really fit and really active and really on it. And with the Beetlejuice makeup, I can’t even imagine it’s going to look like he’s changed practically at all. So, I can’t wait for that,” Elfman said of the sequel.

We also learned that the movie would be hitting cinemas just ahead of Halloween 2024 with it set to release on September 6th – previously the slot held by Marvel’s Blade reboot.

Beetlejuice 2 gets release date and confirmation of Jenna Ortega role

Now we learn that two more big names have been added to the cast as MAtrix star Monica Belluci will play Beetlejuice’s wife – fans may recall that Beetlejuice questionably wanted to marry Lydia in the original; Belluci will be joined – and I love this! – by Lighthouse and Spider-man star Willem Dafoe who is playing a law enforcement officer in the afterlife. Magic.

That’s all we know for now but rest-assured, as there’s more, I’ll share it with you all ASAP!

Thoughts? I know you have them! Voice-off in the usual ways on FTN’s FacebookTwitter and Instagram
