We were told some time ago who would be in Black Panther, but not who they’ll be playing. Disney are nothing if not keen to keep you on the hook.
Finally, this week they’ve revealed some details. While Disney didn’t screened any footage from from the film at their CinemaCon panel, they did confirm which characters the principal cast members would be portraying.
Danai Gurira will be playing the fearsome Okoye, member of the Dora Milaje; while Lupita Nyong’o plays Nakia, who starts out as a bodyguard of T’Challa’s but eventually turns against him and allies with villain Killmonger. Forest Whitaker has also been confirmed as Zuri, one of T’Chaka’s old friends.
Confirming much fan speculation, the big news was that Letitia Wright will definitely play Shuri, T’Challa’s half-sister and one of his most formidable allies. Shuri has taken up the mantle of Black Panther in the comics in the past, so there’s the possibility of this coming into play in the future. Further news on the movie will be released in due course and you’ll know it when we do.
Black Panther is scheduled for release on 16 February 2018.
