So… we all know the da-dum sound that appears when the Netflix N appears before and after its shows, but did you know it was originally set to be a goat bleating?
Well, it was toyed with – as a bit of a nod at the MGM Lion roar – but in the end, according to Netflix Vice President Tod Yellin, thye eventually got Academy Award-winning composer Lon Bender to compose the now iconic sound.
However, with Netflix recently venturing into the arena of cinematic releases with multi-Academy Award-winning Roma, they have started preparing for the possibility (fact?) that they will be heading to the big screens again and they figured they needed something more for the da-dum… something a bit more epic, a bit more THX.
And oh, boy did they succeed.
They hired none other than Man of Steel and Interstellar (and so, so much more) composer Hans Zimmer to redo the sound, extending it and making it more, as said already, epic.
And if you know your movie scores, you’ll know that there’s probably no-one working in cinema scoring today who does epic better.
You can listen to the full sound below, so let me know what you all think. Personally, I love it. Do you?
The Netflix “ta-dum” soundmark is one of the all time greats, but doesn’t work as well in a theater because it’s only 3 seconds long.
So Netflix commissioned Hans Zimmer to extend it for theaters and … it’s … so … good.pic.twitter.com/RGw26vCAGY
