Two interesting bits of Justice League news for you today.
First up, the movie has a new synopsis which confirms that Steppenwolf is the villain and even name drops Dark Seid and that they are chasing ‘artefacts hidden on earth’.
It would be fair enough to conclude that this refers to the Mother Boxes which we saw in Batman V Superman. We also know, again as glimpsed in that movie, that Cyborg IS one of the Boxes, while it is assumed that the other two or held by Wonder Woman and Aquaman’s people.
The synopsis reads:
In the wake of Clark Kent/Superman’s (Cavill) death at the hands of Doomsday in BvS, vigilante Bruce Wayne/Batman (Affleck) reevaluates his extreme methods and begins reaching out to extraordinary heroes to assemble a team of crime-fighters to defend earth from all kinds of threats. Together with Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gadot), Batman seeks out cybernetically enhanced former college football star Vic Stone/Cyborg (Fisher), speedster Barry Allen/The Flash (Miller) and Atlantean warrior king Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Momoa). They face off against Steppenwolf (Hinds), the herald and second-in-command to alien warlord Darkseld, who is charged by Darkseid with hunting down three artefacts hidden on earth.
Justice League hits theaters November 17, 2017.
In other news, while Batman V Superman was criticised for being too dark and it looked like Justice League is being created with a lighter tone and many have speculated that this was because of the reaction to BvS.
Now, personally, I had no issue with the tone of BvS and always believed that while characters like Flash, Green Lantern, Booster Gold and the host of villain were slowly introduced, the tone of the DC Cinematic universe would grow lighter over time.
And it looks like, while some of the toning down WAS because of BvS, my theory may well have been true too.
Now Batman v Superman second unit director Damon Caro has spoken about the direction and tone of the three movies directed by Zack Snyder and the universe as a whole: “The great stories, the Greek tragedies, even life we have to be knocked down before we can build our way up. Justice League was always the rebirth of hope and the rise. People try to say that it’s a response to the backlash, and I’d definitely say that criticisms were heard, but it’s not like we threw everything out and started with a blank slate. It’s a bit like StarWars. Empire Strikes Back? Dark movie! But then Return of the Jedi is the rise and the rebuilding of hope.”
We’re excited for Justice League and we’re excited for the lighter tone in the DC Universe… but we’re also excited for the journey getting there.
What about you guys?
