New live-action Transformers movie set for 2022… but what will it be?

Further to our report that a new animated Transformers movie is in development, it seems Paramount are still at work on their live-action universe too.

On June 24th, 2022 a new live-action adventure will grace our screens. Although there is some confusion at the minute about what exactly it will be.

In recent reports it seemed at a sequel to Bumblebee AND a sequel to the final Bay movie, The Last Knight, were in development and another report was that a live-action Beast Wars movie was on the table too  and, of course, there’s the consistent rumors that a Hasbro shared-universe is in development too, featuring MASK, GI Joe, Power Ranger, the Transformers and more (personally, I would love that… the toys alone would be worth the endeavour. Yeah, I’m in my forties, so what?).

So the new report focuses on the first movie by Murder Mystery scribe James Vanderbilt and the other by John Wick Chapter 3 EP and Army of the Dead writer Joby Harold.

The Vanderbilt project is reportedly the Beast Wars movie while Harold’s is set after the events of Bumblebee.

It should be noted that the aforementioned animated movie is entirely standalone. I hope we don’t get too many continuities on the big screen though, just sayin’.

Personally, while I wasn’t a fan at all of The Last Knight, I would still like to see the story finished as it was setting up Unicron and I still want to see that realised on the live-action big screen. I also really liked Bumblebee, so would be delighted for a sequel to that. And, well, the shared universe idea makes my inner ten-year-old explode with delight. The Beast Wars series passed me by as I was too old at the time.

What say you all? More Transformers? What way would you like to see the franchise continue? Let me know…
