With the new Masters of the Universe movie about to hit screens in the next few weeks and a host of tie-in comics and books set for release (here), it looks like a new animated series is coming… but is it set in the movie universe? I sure hope so.
The news comes from the latest issue of The Toy Book, left, where it was announced that Mattel will soon be releasing a new Masters of the Universe series on YouTube.
Speaking about the series, Mattel’s Nick Karamanos, Senior Vice President, Action Figures, Preschool & Licensing, said that it was developed closely with Amazon MGM, who are releasing the new movie: “As the movie was being developed and ideated and the scripts were being read and reread, we were in lockstep with Amazon MGM.”
Karamanos said that this is the beginning of a new “multi-year MOTU [Masters of the Universe] roadmap,” which includes the new animated series, dubbed Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia.
Tidbit:
Toy Robot Video has announced an upcoming 4k, new cut of the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella.
Planet Eternia and the castle of Grayskull are under threat from the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella) who wants to take over the planet. A group of freedom fighters led by the heroic He-Man (Dolph Lundgren) are accidently transported to Earth by the mysterious Cosmic Key, which holds the power to turn Skeletor all-powerful. Once on Earth, He-Man joins alliances with two teenagers as they attempt to find the key.
Toy Robot Video is proud to present a newly unearthed Preview Cut of the film featuring never-before-seen footage, including new and extended scenes plus alternate takes.
Coming to 2-disc 4K UHD and 2-disc Blu-ray in 2026, via Toy Robot Video.
“For us, it’s about the totality of the property and how we keep it going for kids,” he went on, “That’s a huge part of the plan.”
While there’s no word for certain on if the new series is set in the movie’s timeline, I believe that Karamanos saying it was developed in lockstep with Amazon MGM, along with it coming out less than a week after the movie, would certainly imply that it’s all one big story.

Either way, I will be checking it out, but I really hope this movie universe is one that Amazon MGM, and Mattel build upon for a long time to come.
Masters of the Universe: Tales from Eternia by Snipple Animation Studios will run for 20 episodes, kicking off on June 10th on YouTube.
